  Gordon Cobb, phd

Kinesphere

Created for the 2010 Cultural Olympiad in Vancouver, this collaboration between the Sarah McLachlan School of Music (SoM) and the Arts Umbrella Senior Dance Company showcased the incredible talents of students from both fine arts institutions.  The music score was created by Dr. Cobb in collaboration with the SoM students over a two week rehearsal process.  Instrumentation included conventional choices such as voice, keyboards, flute, electric guitar, and percussion.  Unconventional musical choices included spoken word, number grids, balloons, wine glasses, and bowed vibraphone.  Choreography was created by Shawn Hounsell in collaboration with the dancers.  Both dancers and musicians were brought together to rehearse a number of times before the live performance on Granville Island to a packed, enthusiastic audience.

On this page you will find the live performance, a behind-the-scenes look at day six of the music rehearsal process, and a documentary film exploring the project from the perspective of its creators and performers.  All three films were produced and edited by Dr. Cobb.
